North Hatley Travel Guide
Welcome to North Hatley!
Situated on the northern tip of the picturesque tree-lined Lake Massawippi, the village of North Hatley is a premier resort destination. The village has a variety of art galleries, shops and restaurants and is conveniently located only 15 km (9.3 mi) from the city of Sherbrooke, where urban amenities are available. The main attraction in the North Hatley area is Lake Massawippi, which is known for its deep waters and supposed lake creature resident called “Wippi,” which few people have seen. The enchantment of the village's scenery has lured visitors to the small Quebec settlement since the 1880s, when rich American tourists began to build stately homes in the area. Many of the magnificent residences have been converted into bed & breakfasts, inns and restaurants. The peaceful settlement continues to be a popular retreat for prominent figures, including Canadian politician Jean Charest and former president of France, Jacques Chirac. North Hatley's stunning landscape has also caught the eye of film makers. The village has been used as the background setting for a few movies, including the Secret Window, starring Johnny Depp.
