Percé Travel Guide
Welcome to Percé!
Known as the jewel of the Gaspé Peninsula, Percé is located in the South St. Lawrence region of east Quebec, approximately 69 km (43 mi) south of Gaspé and 251 km (156 mi) from Campbellton, New Brunswick. As far back as the early 18th century, the village was a significant seasonal fishing centre for the entire region, an industry that has been slowly replaced by a burgeoning tourism sector. Elements of early fishing establishments are still quite evident in the architecture and infrastructure of the village, which, when combined with sweeping coastal vistas, rocky shorelines and the iconic Percé Rock, make for a truly inspiring holiday destination. The spectacular landscapes of the village, including the famed Bonaventure Island, have inspired creativity among many artists and artisans, resulting in an enriched artistic community, replete with studios, galleries and varied heritage-based activities. La Vielle Usine, a cultural centre and creative space in the nearby hamlet of L'Anse-a-Beaufils, showcases rotating art exhibits and an array of theatrical, musical and comedic performances during its May-to-September season. Film and art enthusiasts will delight in the festivities offered during the Les Perceides festival, which screens independent films and exhibits contemporary art installations. Boat tours are a popular activity choice and escorts visitors on excursions to Perce Rock, Bonaventure Island, deep-sea fishing grounds and whale habitats. A vibrant waterfront district, ample opportunities to browse the wares of artisans, diverse dining and extensive lodging choices round out the offerings, sure to impress the most astute of traveller.
