The Church of Saint-Pierre in Lavernière has been hit by lightning several times, but has always been faithfully repaired and rebuilt. The wood was salvaged from shipwrecks and had to be blessed before being used.
Built in 1916, the Church of St-Peter's-by-the-sea at Old Harry's doors are enscribed in honour of an island hero, Aaron Clarke, who was swept away by currrents while trying to aid some swimmers in trouble.
